With continuing price rises on energy, solar panel is coming more to the fore; providing practically free power. It can be expensive to have these installed however, so is a good idea to build your own solar panel.

The first thing is ensure you have the necessary tools and equipment. This will mean sourcing the best solar cells for you, which should be given a good portion of time to decide. There are many out there.

Other than this, you will need plywood, a circular saw, good sized length of 1 x 1, screws and screwdriver, caulk, outdoor paint, soldering equipment and solder, glue, copper wire, diode, batteries and Plexiglas.

The first step will be to draw a grid, suitable to your solar cells, on the plywood, (use them as a template). Having determined the size of the panel by this, you can cut the plywood to size and the fun can really start.

Take your 1 x 1 and cut to size; determined by the size of your plywood panel. The panel should be attached to these using your screws, and applying suitable amounts of caulk and painted with outdoor paint to protect from the elements.

Before applying the cells, they need to be soldered together; using tabs at the back to attach one to the other. This work needs to be very careful, as the cells are very delicate at this point. Once in a suitable series, they can be applied with glue onto your plywood grid.

Once all set into place, the copper wire and diode line can be attached from the panel to the electrical system. The diode is necessary here, as it will prevent power being lost through reverse transfer from the batteries.

Finally, a suitable sized piece of Plexiglas should be attached with caulk. This will ensure it is weatherproofed, and cannot be damaged by debris and the like. Having learned to build your own solar panel, perhaps you’ll make enough power to sell back to the grid?

By learning to build your own solar panel you can save money, help the environment, and generate electricity using free energy from the sun with do it yourself solar panels.

More of us are now concerned about the source of the electricity we use. There are daily news stories about the consequences of burning fossil fuels that have brought the state of the environment into everybody’s mind. But today most of the energy we use is still produced in power plants that burn coal and oil which add to the amount of greenhouse gas present in our planet’s atmosphere. You can choose to switch to a “green technology” such as solar panels for your home that will not be adding to global warming or climate change.

If you install solar panels there will be immediate benefits felt. Of course the financial savings that can be made are potentially vast; you may no longer need to pay a costly utility bill. Also you should research to find out whether there are any tax breaks or grants that can be given to cover the cost of the panels and the installation. State governments and local authorities now have many schemes to encourage people to turn to alternative energy sources.

If you have a property or building that is not connected to the power grid or which is in a region that often has power cuts and shortages then solar panels can be the solution. There is no longer any reason for us to depend on a government or private company to provide us with electricity.

Some people still have the idea in their minds that solar cells are not so efficient. Though this was once the case, today the technology has changed dramatically. Now even on a cloudy or overcast day the photovoltaic cells will receive enough light to produce energy.

It is possible to run your home completely off solar panels or use the cells to produce a proportion of your needs. Either option is simple to plan and put into operation. The more panels you use the greater amount of electricity that will be produced.

There are many companies that can install solar panels on your property though if you have a basic understanding of DIY then you can do the job yourself in just a short time.

The cost of solar panels is decreasing. To make it even more affordable you can craft your own DIY solar panels.

The many advantages of solar energy are why you should highly consider changing at least part of your power to solar. Use of solar energy over the choice of oil or natural gas can be extremely beneficial to the environment for starters.

The sun is a renewable source; solar energy is going to be around for as long as the sun continues to shine. Yes it is true that at night you will not collect energy, and on cloudy days. But those days that it’s shining brightly you are able to store up energy to use for those other times.

But if you consider oil as a source that will always be around, well we all know that isn’t true. It takes millions of years for that oil to actually be made. Once the resources are used up it’s going to take that much time for it to be produced again. And those reserves well they are going down too quickly.

Solar energy is not a polluting thing to use, unlike oil. This would be the biggest and best reason out there for you to take advantage of solar energy. Oil when it’s burnt will release out carbon dioxide that will add greenhouse gas into the atmosphere. Or even problems that can come up with oil spills and all the damage they cause.

Solar cells are something that requires very little maintenance and they are something that will last a long amount of time. It may cost you some money to first get set up with your solar panels and the other accessories that are needed. However, keep in mind that it’s a onetime cost. Something that month to month will cost you very little money. The only time you will need to spend is when you have to fix something. Oil on the other hand is something that goes up quickly and all the time.

The process of installing products and lights that are run by solar power are simple to do. All it takes is a little bit of wiring, and you really will never find yourself having to dig for a supporting trench.

Of course being good for the environment and the cost are the two biggest reasons why solar energy is much better than oil. Just remember that you may find ways that you can make your own solar panels and save money.

As you save on those bills you will be able to save up and switch over your full home to the use of solar power.

by Mark Walters

In this modern era, with both global warming and greenhouse gases on the rise, it’s important to take note of the importance of renewable energy resources. It’s critical that proper attention is given to reducing carbon emissions.

It’s important that the population do what they can to minimize their impact on the environment by looking at other more environmentally friendly means of heating their homes for instance.

For those willing to put in some effort in relation to improving the environment, governments normally offer tax breaks, grants or concessions. However, sometimes it can be hard to know what’s on offer and how to get them (how to get solar power grants for example).

So, if you’re interested in doing your bit to improve the environment that you live in, and being rewarded for you efforts, what’s the best way to proceed?

This best place to start is the ‘Database of State Incentives for Renewable and Efficiency’ website. From this site you can find out what incentives and grants are available in the specific state that you live in. You can find this out by simply clicking on your state from the map of the United States that you will be presented with.

You should definitely be checking out this site before taking any other steps towards living a greener life. You’ll then know exactly what you’re entitled to and the amount of money that you can receive. This is probably the first step in order to understand how to get solar power grants for instance.

Some of the items presented there include…

- The type of policy or incentive being offered. For example, is it a tax credit, net metering, etc.?

- Are the benefits available to all sectors (residential, commercial, government, etc.)?.

- Is the grant a state or federal one?

- A link to the website in charge of the offering of the grant or incentive.

- The purpose the grant is on offer for, whether it is for the installation of solar power, wind energy or insulation, etc.

A combination of this website and the individual websites of the various state and federal departments will set you well on your way. The benefits can be quite numerous, with the possibility of receiving thousands of dollars or the complete purchase and installation price of some of these renewable energy resources or environmentally friendly facilities.

I’d also be inclined to monitor the website on a regular basis in order to be updated on new developments on how to get solar power grants. Both state and federal governments are constantly increasing what’s on offer to encourage people to go green in order to reduce their own carbon emissions at both the state and national levels.

More and more people are becoming concerned about helping the environment and at the same time, about saving money wherever they can, especially in today’s economy. As the cost of energy rises, more people are becoming aware of alternative energy sources, such as solar power.

Solar panels produce energy by using one of our most renewable energy sources. The sun produces an unlimited supply of natural, environmentally friendly energy to all of us. Unlike fossil fuels, we will never run out of energy that is produced from the sun. It is estimated that we could completely run out of fossil fuels within a few decades based on the world’s current consumption rate.

Solar power is already widely used today. It has been used for years to power such things as calculators, but also in the last few years they are powering things like garden lights, road side construction signs and a number of other devices.

Renewable energy sources are the answer to a number of problems. Saving significant money on your home energy bills can become a reality with the use of the latest in technology and the non-polluting natural energy all around us. Powering your home with solar energy has the following benefits.

* Solar power is a green and renewable resource

* Solar power has no pollution

* Once your solar power system is in place, it costs almost nothing to run

* Can reduce or eliminate your utility bill

* You will have power even during a power outage

* If you produce more energy than what you need the energy company could pay you for it

* With the right system and instructions making your own solar panels can be very easy

* As your energy needs grow, you can simply add more solar panels

* The value of your home will increase

Green energy sources do not harm the environment or give off harmful by-products. The results from these energy sources are completely different than fossil fuels.

Can the use of solar energy really decrease your power bill? Utilizing renewable energy products in your home, you can dramatically lower your power bill, even by up to 80%! Homeowners who set their mind to it are now completely living off the power grid.

Installation of a commercially purchased solar energy system can be quite expensive. However, building your own solar panel system these days can be very easy and a whole lot less money. Over the last few years the technology has improved enabling the regular home owner to be able to build their own system cheaply and easily.

With the use of a really good how to guide from the internet you can follow their easy to understand instructions one step at a time to build your solar panel system. Even if you are not a handy type of person, you will be able to follow the instructions to get your system together in just one weekend. And for under $200, the return on your investment is huge.

More and more people are becoming concerned about helping save the environment and at the same time lowering their monthly expenses. One of the best and easiest ways to do that today is to learn how to build your own solar panel energy system. The rising cost of oil is a wake up call for people to start thinking of ways to conserve energy. Just imagine the savings you will achieve month after month when you use solar energy. Without a doubt, solar energy is one of the best sources of energy; it’s free, and always available.
